Eye flow refers to the natural path a viewer’s eyes follow when scanning a webpage, ad, product interface, or piece of content. Designers study eye flow to guide attention toward key elements—such as headlines, visuals, forms, or calls-to-action—using hierarchy, spacing, contrast, and directional cues. Instead of leaving navigation to chance, strong layouts encourage smooth visual movement that feels intuitive and balanced. Effective eye flow minimizes cognitive effort and improves understanding.

For example, a landing page may guide the viewer from headline to product benefits to a clear CTA button using typography and layout structure. An e-commerce product page might place imagery left, price and ratings near top-right, and “Add to Cart” prominently beneath. When executed well, eye flow reduces friction and supports both comprehension and conversion.
